Choosing an artist to create a cover for.

Although for this project we will be working with the music students, I would like to use that experience as more primary research on designing and creating a cover for someone, because I would like my final design to be for my favourite band of choice.

I have decided to chose Keane, as they have to be one of my all time favourite bands. I have loved all their songs since they have started out and since they have just released a brand new album it would be great if I look at that and try and see if I can come up with a better cover.

This was their 1st album, released in 2004. I like the simpleness of this cover apart from the repetitive pattern around the title. The objects on the cover, are piano hammers. This is a great representation of the bands sound because they use a lot of piano.

This is my favourite cover and my favourite album so far. It came out in 2006 and was the 2nd album. The 'Iron Sea' is the metaphoric name for the group's worries about their uncertain future and the sudden fame.

This was the 3rd album released in 2008. A new member of the band joined for this album, Jesse Quin who provided bass which had never been used in Keane's records before. I quite like this cover, it's includes parts of each of the bands faces, which is very different from the last 2 albums, which didn't include any of the band.

This was an EP that was released in 2010. I do really like this piece of artwork.

This is the new album their 4th, released this year. It is a very nice photo, I love the colours and the way the decent leads you up the picture.

I found out that the main font they use for their band name is 'Cochin'. So I will be taking that font into consideration when designing my idea for the album.

Keane have grown as a band, they are a lot more modern now, compaired to how they were when they started. I think I will go with a photograph for my idea, like they have for their 4th album. I also think I will keep the title, 'Strangelands' because for this album the band decided to look back at the first 2 albums they wrote, and see how far they have came from having nothing and not being very well known.

I have decided, instead of creating another Keane album, I will create a band that are a Keane tribute band called 'Far Too Keane'. I ment the 'Keane' in that band name as the word 'Keen' but because they are a 'Keane' tribute band I spelt it the band way.
